Psychoanalytic Consultation

This page is for therapists and others interested in this work. If you’re looking to start therapy yourself, see Getting Started.

Look at Your Case Through a Psychoanalytic Lens

Depth-oriented work produces more than one clinician can hold alone. A psychoanalytic lens asks what keeps repeating, what’s happening between you and your patient, and where this stretch sits in the long arc. The frustration or dread you bring in belongs to the clinical picture, too.

I offer psychoanalytic consultation to clinicians, and to people exploring the areas where my training and research live. Consultation usually serves:

  • Clinicians thinking through cases, especially long-term, complex, or depth-oriented work
  • Clinicians and others interested in psychedelic preparation and integration, including Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy
  • People considering psychoanalytic training who want to talk it through with someone who has completed that training at PINC
  • Anyone interested in how yoga, mindfulness, meditation, or spirituality meet psychoanalytic work

Let the Case Show You What It’s Repeating

Consultation is a collaborative conversation about the work you’re doing or the questions you’re holding. We look for the same story turning up with a new cast, and for the old feelings a patient directs toward you, along with what they stir in you. Read together; they usually explain a session that went sideways.

Depth work also has treacherous periods, and resistance sometimes shows up as a patient’s conviction that they’re ready to end. Talking it through outside the room makes it easier to stay with.

We can meet regularly or as needed around a particular case or question. Consultation is separate from clinical supervision toward licensure.

Draw on Training Lived from the Inside

Candidates undergo their own analysis, four times a week and for years, because we have to experience it as patients so that we can say it works. If you’re weighing that commitment, we can talk through its demands.

My doctoral research studies where psychoanalysis and plant medicine meet, and I’ve developed a psychoanalytic approach to psychedelic integration. All of it rests on years of clinical practice.

My full training is listed on the About page →

Trust Your Own Judgment with Your Patients

The goal is to help you think more clearly about the work and trust your own judgment. What I add is a psychoanalytic frame and unhurried attention, so your own thinking can come back into focus.

Tell Me Which Question You’re Holding

Reach out and tell me what you’re looking for, and we’ll find a format that fits. One question about a case is a fine place to start, and so is a longer conversation about where your work is heading.

Talk to Me First

That sentence you almost said is still waiting. It doesn’t need to arrive polished, and the dream doesn’t need to make sense yet. There will be a pause nobody hurries, and room for whatever you bring into it.

A free 20-minute consultation is the best way to find out whether this is the right fit. I can usually see new patients the same week or the week after. Bring the sentence with you.
